In Memory of Former Council Member Clarence Zieman
The Town of Deseronto Council and staff would like to extend our heartfelt sympathies to the family and friends who are mourning the loss of former Deseronto Town Council member and Hastings County Warden Clarence Zieman.
Clarence loved Deseronto. He served 8 terms for a total of 24 years on Deseronto Council from 1977-2018(Councillor 1977-80 & 2014-2018, Deputy Mayor 1980-1982, 2000-2003, 2006-2014 & Mayor 2003-2006) and as Hastings County Warden in 2006.
He was a passionate public representative who cared deeply for his community. Always approachable and with a love for finance and recreation, Clarence established himself not only in politics, but also in building this community through his time on various community boards and committees.
A dedicated father, husband, colleague, and friend to many within our region, our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this time. Clarence will be missed by many.
Flags in Centennial Park and at Deseronto Town Hall have been lowered in his honour.

Fire Prevention Week - Cooking Safety Starts With YOU!
October 8, 2023 – The Deseronto Fire Department is excited to kick off the 2023 Fire Prevention Week campaign and to promote this year’s theme, “Cooking safety starts with YOU. Pay attention to Fire Prevention.”
This year’s campaign, October 8-14th, works to educate everyone about simple but important actions they can take to keep themselves and those around them safe.
Deseronto Fire Department offers these key safety tips to help reduce the risk of a cooking fire.
Watch what you heat. Always keep a close eye on what you are cooking. Set a timer to remind you that you are cooking.
Turn pot handles toward the back of the stove. Always keep a lid nearby when cooking. If a small grease fire starts, slide the lid over the pan and turn off the burner.
Have a “kid- and pet-free zone” of at least 3 feet (1 meter) around the stove or grill and anywhere else hot food or drink is prepared or carried.
The Deseronto Fire Department invites all residents to join us at our Open House on October 14th between 10am and 2pm. This is a family event, please mark it on your calendar and we look forward to seeing you.
