The Deseronto Culture and Recreation Committee acts in an advisory capacity to Council regarding matters pertaining to park, sport, recreation and culture.

The Committee meets on a regular basis every other month. The committee holds more meetings as required in order to plan special events, such as the Santa Claus Parade and Tree Lighting Ceremony, Family Day and Canada Day Celebrations each year.

The Committee is made up of community volunteers, Council members and Town staff.

The Deseronto Community Centre Arena is now taking ice bookings.

The ICE is going in November 14, 2020 and we are taking bookings for ice time NOW.

Please be advised:

  • Teams are required to follow all posted rules and conduct requirements due to COVID.

  • The arena always locked other than your playing time.

  • The arena is staffed 15 minutes before your scheduled ice time, so please show up early.

  • Please use your assigned change room only – no comingling.

Employment Opportunities - Part Time and Student at the Deseronto Community Recreation Centre

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY – COMMUNITY CENTRE FACILITY ATTENDANTS

The Town of Deseronto is currently seeking individuals to fill part time positions to perform maintenance and other operational duties to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the Deseronto Community Centre.

The attendants are responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Community Centre. The successful candidates will be involved in a diverse range of job activities which include performing building maintenance and facility repairs, ice maintenance, record keeping, event/rental program set up and take down, etc.  In addition, the applicants must be prepared to work on a rotating shift schedule that may include days, evenings, weekends and statutory holidays.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

  • Self starter and able to work with minimal supervision

  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Experience in a recreation facility an asset

  • Valid class “G” Ontario driver’s license

  • Experience operating an ice resurfacing machine an asset

  • Completion of or working towards high school or acceptable equivalent of education and experience

  • Must be available to work varying shifts that may include day, afternoon and weekend shifts and be available on call if needed.

The students will assist with moving of the nets and other janitorial and maintenance tasks. The position is for approximately 10 hours assisting in the completion of the general maintenance of the arena, parks and other facility grounds as required. The successful candidates will be involved in a diverse range of job activities which include performing maintenance tasks, event/rental program set up and take down, and customer service. In addition, the applicant must be prepared to work on a rotating shift schedule that includes evenings, weekends and statutory holidays.

Qualifications and Experience required:

  • Punctual and dependable

  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Experience and/or knowledge in a recreation facility an asset

  • Must be available to work afternoon and weekend shifts and be available on call if needed.

The hourly wage for this position is $ 14.00/hr (Student Wage).

Town Council Passes Motion to Install Ice in Deseronto Community Recreation Centre

“Town of Deseronto Council passed a motion to ensure the ice surface is put in at the Community Centre. At last night’s council meeting, the Deputy Mayor, Steven Everhardus, placed a motion on the table to have the arena operational as of November 14, 2020.

The motion did include several conditions; ensuring there are enough casual staff in place to adhere to COVID-19 policy and procedure, staff make a plan to accommodate some form of public skating and lastly that council do monthly reviews to ensure the safety of not only the staff, but also the community is adhered to.

The motion was passed unanimously.”

Note: - If the operating conditions change due to COVID or other provincial orders impacting public use of such facilities change the public will be notified.
